Laser Tattoo Removal

Q-switched lasers are recognised as the only really effective lasers for tattoo removal. Unwanted dark and multi-coloured tattoos can be safely and effectively eliminated with Harmony’s laser tattoo removal treatment. Using a combination of laser wavelengths that target different ink colours, high-intensity light beams break up the ink particles in the tattoo, revealing clear, ink-free skin with minimal risk of scarring or hypo-pigmentation.

The Q-switch produces light pulses of extremely high peak power. Several types of Q-switch lasers exist, and each type targets a different colour spectrum. Because Q-switch lasers are so precise and intense, tattoo pigments fragment instantly, and the surrounding tissue is spared.
This treatment can be used on all skin types. However, prior to your treatment, we will take a full medical history to confirm suitability for the treatment. You will also be asked to give informed consent. The procedure, its benefits and potential side effects will be explained to you. During this time, you are most welcome to ask any questions you may have. You will be provided with verbal or written after care instructions. As the laser is so powerful, we numb the area we are treating before the procedure starts, either with an anaesthetic cream or by injecting lidocaine. Depending on the size of the treated area, each session can take from 15 minutes to one hour. We will then cover the area with an antibacterial cream and sterile dressing.
There are different types of tattoo ink (for example amateur as well as professional). This may affect how effectively you will respond to the treatment.

Certain pigments used in the tattoo do not respond to any available wavelength. Also, some pigments may simply turn brown or black rather than be removed, and then not respond to further treatment.
The number of sessions you need depends on the type (such as amateur or professional) and the size of the tattoo, as well as the depth and type of the pigment used. It is possible that you may need anything from 3 to 20 sessions, at intervals of 8 to 10 weeks, to achieve an acceptable result.
You will see slight bleeding, redness, swelling, and blistering for several hours or days following treatment. Over the weeks to follow, you may see flaking, peeling, or scabbing of the treated area. Handle the treatment site gently. Once the skin has completely healed, you can undergo further treatment.
• The application of cold compresses after the treatment may be recommended
• While the site is healing, you should wash and dry the treated area gently using a mild soap, then apply a soothing moisturiser or antibacterial cream
• No exercise for 12 hours
• No heat or heat treatments to the area for up to 7 days
• No direct sun exposure or sun beds for 28 days post-treatment
• A sun screen (S.P.F 50) and antioxidant protection should be used post-treatment
